Video
I have become interested in video as a way of complementing my sound, as well as using it to document trips and events. Some of my videos use commercial music as their soundtracks and are cannot be shown here in full. However some pieces use all original sound.
Improvisations under the Sky
Based around James Turrell's The DeerShelter,
it tries to convey ideas of tranquility and nature through improvisational
music that was recorded in the space and using the idea of the inside and outside
as one.
It was originally an installation piece which was part of a postgraduate festival at Bretton Hall Campus in May 2007. Shown on two screens, the first has flute improvisations as its sound, and video footage and still images from both inside (during the improvising stage) and outside the space. Whilst the second screen has a time-based video of what is seen through the sky space itself from different times of the year, with the sound of birdsong which is very prevalent around the park.
It has been since put on to one dvd, showing both videos at once and the sound mixed together. To see a clip of one of the videos click here.
